hayope > L to R: Rod, Nic, and Barry (Australia all) checking out some pictures of the day. Nic and Barry were one of two Father-Kid combos on the tour.
hayope > Looking back toward Lang Co before starting our climb up Hai Van Pass. We started at sea level, with lots of elevation still to gain.
hayope > This is one of my favorite photos from the tour. Andy (red) and me about half-way up the Hai Van Pass climb, which started at sea level. We were just approaching a right-hand hairpin-switchback, which is why we're on the wrong side of the road. The insides of the switchbacks were really steep, so if traffic allowed, we crossed over to the outside to make the turns. This photo was taken from the road above, just after the switchback, and I seem to remember Nathan H, the photographer, giving us a hard time for being wussies and crossing to the outside to make the turn.
hayope > Looking down from most of the way up Hai Van Pass. We started at sea level, and you can see part of the road climbing up about half way up the left side of the frame.
hayope > I made it about 85% of the climb without stopping, but finally had to pull over to take some pictures and get my heart rate down. This was my view looking one way, and the next shot was my view looking the other way.
hayope > Great photo showing the bulk of the climb up Hai Van Pass. We started the morning at our hotel on that little tan strip of beach you can see going off the middle of the frame on right side of the picture. All uphill from there... Photo: D. Olsen
hayope > View from close to the top of Hai Van Pass. Check out the vertical drop between the two busses. There were a bunch of those switchbacks...
hayope > Top of Hai Van Pass. Corbin (USA) entertains the locals by riding his 36-er down the skinny guard-wall at the side of the road. He rode it all the way down to the end, which is behind the left-most lady with the pink mask's head.
hayope > Corbin pretty much owned the top of Hai Van Pass. When he wasn't riding the skinny guard wall, he was doing still stands on top of old ruin structures.
